Man City 'planning stunning move' to re-sign player Pep Guardiola allowed to leave after buyout clause revealed

The Premier League champions could bring one of their former players to the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City may consider re-signing one of their former players after it emerged that Pep Guardiola’s side are “guarding” their former player.

City they have survived perhaps the most difficult period Guardiola time at the Etihad Stadium since joining the club in 2016 following five successive defeats in all competitions.

At the weekend, Guardiola’s team was surprised by a match against Tottenham Hotspur, after which the team from north London defeated them at home 4-0.

James Maddison’s first-half double gave Spurs a 2-0 lead and stunned City, while Pedro Porro scored the third goal shortly after the break before Brennan Johnson finished injury time.

The result left City eight points behind current Premier League leaders Liverpool after Arne Slot’s side came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 and extend their lead at the top of the table.

City return to action in the Champions League tonight, beating Dutch side Feyenoord at the Etihad Stadium, with Guardiola’s men currently 10th in the enlarged new group stage table.

Perhaps the weakest element of City’s squad is the centre-forward, with Erling Haaland the only senior option available. In the summer, Julian Alvarez sold himself to Atletico Madrid.

One player City could turn to as they look to strengthen their striking options is a youngster who came through the ranks of the club’s youth teams and only left the club permanently in the summer.

Liam Delap joined City’s academy in 2019 from Derby County and spent loan spells with Championship sides Stoke City, Preston North End and Hull City before leaving this summer.

Delapthe son of former Stoke player Rory, played a total of six games for City and scored one goal in that time, but in the summer he moved to promotions Ipswich Town for a reported fee of up to £20 million, signing a five-year deal at Portman Road.

The 21-year-old has impressed with his performance so far Tractor Boyshe has scored six Premier League goals and this form appears to have attracted the attention of Delap’s former club.

According to Football expertCity are “keeping an eye on” Delap and it is believed a buy-out clause has been added to the deal that took him to Suffolk.

It is also said that the sell-on clause will apply in the event that Ipswich ultimately sell Delap to a club other than City, but the report states that City will “consider the advantages” of exercising the striker’s buy-back clause once it becomes active.
