In a tragic accident, four women were killed and 16 others injured after a pickup truck collided with a truck in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district. Giving details, local police station in-charge IB Valvi said the incident was reported in Chotila area on Monday evening around 10:30 p.m.

He added that there were 20 people in the van at the time of the accident. Shortly after the accident, the injured were taken to hospital, where they received help. The official further said that while two women died on the spot after the collision, two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy, the police officer added.

Victims were going to Somnath: Police

According to police, when the incident happened, the victims were going to Somnath for some religious ritual. The officer said the van was heading to Somnath from Shiyani village in Limbdi taluka of Surendranagar. While traveling, an oncoming truck collided head-on with a delivery vehicle.

At the time of the incident, the truck was turning right to stop near the roadside in Dhaba. Meanwhile, a van came from the front and collided with the truck, causing the accident. After the accident, the injured were shifted to Rajkot Civil Hospital. The deceased were identified as Magjiben Retharia (72), Galalben Retharia (60), Manjuben Retharia (65) and Gauriben Retharia (68).

Six people died in a similar incident

Earlier on November 18, six people, including three children, were killed and four others injured in a similar accident when the private van they were traveling in rammed into a truck in Gujarat’s Bharuch district.

According to Jambusar Police Station Inspector AV Panamia, the accident occurred on the Jambusar-Amod road near Magnad village around the time when 10 people from Vedach village were heading towards Shuklatirth.

After the incident, Jambusar police registered an FIR against the unidentified truck driver, who was at large, under sections 125 (rash or negligent act endangering human life) and 285 (danger or obstruction on public road or line of navigation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, an official said.
