Couple dies by suicide in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu | Chennai News

NAMAKKAL: A couple died by suicide on Tuesday evening after drinking cold drinks laced with poison at their home in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal town.
The deceased have been identified as S. Gunasekaran, 60, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and his wife G. Chandrakala, 50.
City police inspector Namakkal K Kabilan said Gunasekaran and Chandrakala were involved in running a women’s self-help group. The couple’s older son, a truck driver, distanced himself from the family. The couple’s younger son is studying B Com in Trichy and was staying in a hostel there.
The pair borrowed money from various sources to finance the group, but had difficulty repaying the loans. The inspector stated that this, combined with problems with his sons, could have been the reason for suicide.
The inspector said the couple was talking to neighbors on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday morning, they noticed that the couple did not leave the house even after 8:00. They looked through the crack in the door and found the couple lying dead on the bed. They alerted the police.
The police broke down the doors, recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsy.
The police notified the older sons. The case has been registered.
