Alabama A&M linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr. remains in the hospital

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – An Alabama A&M linebacker who was carried off the field during October’s Magic City Classic game remains in the hospital, his family says.

Medrick Burnett Jr., a redshirt freshman from California, was injured in a head-on collision during the game, according to a GoFundMe organized for him by his sister Dominece James.

His family says the Alabama A&M guard, who was removed from the field during October’s Magic City Classic, remains in critical condition.

“He had several brain bleeds and brain swelling. He had to have drainage to relieve the pressure and after 2 days of heavy pressure we had to opt for a craniotomy as a last resort to save his life,” according to an update posted on GoFundMe. .

Burnett has played in seven games this season. He transferred to Alabama A&M from Grambling State.

GoFundMe set up for Burnett announced that he turned 20 in October. More than $26,000 was raised for his family.

After speaking with Burnett Jr.’s family. it has been confirmed that he remains in hospital in Birmingham.

“When the time comes, we will make a statement about what we have been through.” Denise Burnett said Burnett Jr.’s mother.
