Wichita police arrest suspect in two sexual assault cases

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita police say they have arrested a suspect in two sexual assault cases in the past two months.

Police said on November 19, a woman was walking home in the 500 block of West Skinner when she was approached by a man in a red car. The man tried to persuade her to have sex, but when she did not respond and moved on, he threatened her.

The suspect, later identified as Christopher Calisay, struck the woman with his car, forced her inside and, against her will, drove her to an alley at 1600 N. Waco.

Police said the suspect committed a “brutal sexual assault” before taking her home. Police say he took a photo of her ID to keep her address and threatened to kill her if she reported the assault to police.

The victim provided police with the suspect’s license plate number and additional information about him. Police used Flock camera technology to identify a vehicle matching the victim’s description and linked it to a relative of the suspect in Haysville.

Calisay was arrested for aggravated kidnapping, two counts of rape, sodomy, two counts of aggravated battery and criminal menacing.

On Tuesday, police met with organizations including the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center, crime analysts, patrol offices and officers from the Broadway Corridor Team (BWCT) to discuss the crime. Police said someone at BWCT remembered a case from October in which the victim was attacked in similar circumstances.

BWCT located the victim in the area of South Broadway and interviewed him. After reviewing surveillance footage, officers determined that the robbery suspect was driving the same red car.

For this crime, Calisay was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, rape, aggravated sodomy, simple battery, menacing and kidnapping.
