Crow Agency employee in custody after 1 person killed and 1 injured in knife attack

According to tribal authorities, a Crow Agency man is under federal investigation for allegedly killing his aunt and attacking his grandmother this week as she tried to stop the attack.

Tribal court documents show that on Wednesday in Crow Tribal Court, Daniel M. Dreamer, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of intentional homicide, assault and elder abuse. He is currently being held at the Rocky Mountain Detention Center in Hardin.

According to Crow Tribal Court documents, Dreamer allegedly stabbed his aunt 22 times with a butterfly knife Tuesday evening at a residence on Dakake Street in Crow Agency.

Court documents say his 86-year-old grandmother tried to stop the assault and Dreamer allegedly knocked her to the ground. Court documents show she was taken to a local hospital with a laceration to her collarbone and an injury to her wrist that appeared to be a stab wound.

Family members confirmed to MTN that the aunt’s name was Jonni Dreamer and the grandmother’s name was Deanne Dreamer.

Daniel Dreamer was sentenced Wednesday to two and a half years in prison by a tribal court that has severely limited authority to impose harsher penalties for crimes such as murder.

Crow Tribe Attorney David Sibley confirmed to MTN News that the FBI is also investigating. Dreamer has not been charged in federal court, which carries a harsher penalty than tribal court.
