Police arrested her boyfriend Aditya Pandit (27) on Tuesday after one of Tula’s relatives accused him of harassing and abusing her and forcing her to stop eating non-vegetarian food, the official cited the FIR.

According to an official at Powai police station, Tuli hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Mumbai since June last year due to work. She and Pandit met two years ago during a commercial pilot course in Delhi and started a relationship.

The suicide came to light when Pandit started his car journey to Delhi. While driving, Tuli called Pandit saying that she would end her life. Pandit ran to Mumbai and found the door to her apartment locked from inside, the official said.

He then used a key duplicator to open the door and found Tuli hanging from a data cable. She was taken to SevenHills Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. No suicide note was found in the house, the official added.

Tuli’s uncle later approached the police, claiming that Pandit often harassed and even humiliated her in public places. Moreover, he pressured her to change her eating habits, the relative alleged, the official said.

Based on his uncle’s complaint, Pandit was arrested under Art. 108 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (incitement to suicide). He added that he was produced in court, which placed him in police custody for four days. PTI
