An investigation continues into the attack on a Bilston pub landlady

Diane Elcock needed hospital treatment after she was attacked by three people at a famous music venue on Sunday evening.

Miss Elcock was working behind the bar at The Trumpet in Bilston when a man and a woman she had previously excluded from the pub returned with another man.

As a result of the attack, she suffered a broken nose, a black eye and bruises on her body.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: ‘We were called on Sunday at around 7.50pm after a woman was assaulted in a pub in the High Street, Bilston.

“The woman was punched several times and was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious.

“A man, aged 59, and a woman, aged 26, from Wolverhampton have been arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been released on bail pending further investigation.”

Miss Elcock (50), who also works as a teacher in West Bromwich, has been running a well-known jazz club with her partner Musti Bouameur for 12 years.

She said she now lives in fear that they will return.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Earlier that afternoon she said she had asked a middle-aged man and a younger woman, who had previously been banned from the pub, to leave.

“I told them it would be better if they drank somewhere else, and then I went out the back to put some distance between them and me,” she said.

“When I came back, they were gone and I thought it was over.”

But at around 7.30pm she said they returned with another man and the woman went behind the bar and grabbed Miss Elcock by the neck.

“She punched me in the head,” she said.

“She pulled my hair and hit me. I tried to turn off the register behind me and one of the men started banging on the register, trying to release it.

“The second man started taking bottles from the shelf. The girl continued to hit me and then the man started hitting me in the head. She then knocked me to the ground while I screamed and called for help.

“An elderly customer of mine who was in the pub started approaching me, trying to help, telling them to leave me alone, and he came up to the bar and they knocked him to the ground and started kicking him.

“I tried to escape, to get away from behind the bar. As I fell to the floor, the girl grabbed me again and then pushed me onto one of the couches, grabbed my hair and held my head towards the ground, while she held me and encouraged the two men to hit me in the head.

Mr. Bouameur, who was upstairs at the time, heard the commotion and came down to help. Outside the pub, a woman threatened that “your pub is finished,” Miss Elcock added.
