In eight months it will be 2025 British and Irish lions will pack their bags and fly to Australia for the next leg of one of the most iconic tours in sport.

Ten matches – including three Tests against the Wallaby and one against Argentina – are played over a month and a half as the Lions seek their first series win since their trip to the same ground 12 years ago.

The countdown is on for Andy Farrell to select his squad and by the time that selection is made next spring, Home Nations players have less than 10 international games to prove they have what it takes to earn the most prestigious call-up in European rugby.

Here, Telegraph sport selects the squad, assessing fitness and form as if they were to leave tomorrow, and at the end of the autumn this group will be updated with those who performed particularly impressively.
