1 dead, 1 in critical condition after car bursts into flames following crash outside Miami Edison High School – WSVN 7News | Miami news, weather, sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a two-vehicle collision that set the cars on fire outside Miami Edison Middle School.

Miami Fire Rescue and Miami Police responded to the scene near Miami Edison Middle School on Monday afternoon.

A school board official was allegedly the first person to notify authorities after witnessing the crash.

7Skyforce hovered over the scene where crews surrounded several vehicles that had burned following the crash.

The cell phone recording showed the moments when one of the vehicles burst into flames. Flames were seen coming from the car.

According to rescue teams, the woman was thrown from the vehicle and suffered burns.

She was transported in critical condition to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Roads remain closed between Northwest 60th Street and 61st Street and Second Avenue.

The vehicle did not make contact with the school.

An investigation into the causes of the crash is ongoing.
