David Harris, the actor of The Warriors and the blue actor of the New York Police Department, has died at the age of 75

David Harris, actor best known for playing Cochise in Walter Hill’s pulpy 1979 thriller Warriorsdied. He was 75 years old.

Harris died on Friday at his home in New York after suffering from cancer, said his daughter Davina Harris New York Times.

Harris’ Cochise is an integral member of the street gang featured in the 1979 cult classic Warriors. Based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name and directed/co-written by Hill, the film follows a gang traveling from the Bronx to Coney Island after being falsely accused of murdering a gang leader. Harris’ Cochise was distinguished by his eccentric taste in fashion.

Harris’ first acting came in 1976, when he played Haywood Patterson in the Emmy-nominated television movie Judge Horton and the Scottsboro Boys. He appeared in several television series throughout his career, most notably as Officer Donny Simmons from 1993 to 2002 on ABC. Blue NYPD (watch the fan-made supercut below). He also appeared in episodes The First Wives Club, Instinct, Law & Order: SVU, ER, MacGyver and more.

Apart from WarriorsHarris’s credits include: Brubaker, Quicksilver, A Soldier’s Story AND Fatal beauty.
