Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at Hemlock Semiconductor’s Next Generation Finishing Facility in Hemlock, Michigan, Monday, October 28, 2024.

“Listen, we have to win a 21st century competition,” she said at Hemlock Semiconductor in Saginaw. “We don’t want China to beat us in 21st century competition, and so it’s about doing the work that Corning will be doing in terms of producing these solar panels, along with the work that you guys are doing here.”

Harris cited the CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act as ways she tried to increase America’s productive power.

“I want to thank you all for what you are doing here. As a perfect example of the vision that we had – the president and I and the congressman – we were going to create a significant public investment in the private ownership of America’s industries through the CHIPS Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and we were going to infuse it with billions of dollars knowing that if we did that, as the old saying goes If you build it, they will come,” she said. .

Harris used the opportunity to sharply criticize Trump for “how he will get rid of the CHIPS Act.” Last week, Trump criticized the bipartisan law on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
