The New York Police Department is investigating a possible subway surfing incident that led to the death of a teenager in Queens. FOX 5 NY’s Lissette Nuñez has the details.

QUEENS – The teenager is dead and the other one is seriously injured as a result of approx subway surfing incident in Queens, New York police said.

The two girls are believed to have been subway surfing at the 111th Street station in the Corona section on Sunday just before 11 p.m.

Police said the girls fell between two subway cars on the southbound No. 7 train. Police reported that one of them died on the spot, the other one was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with a head injury and his condition is said to be critical.

The girls’ identities and exact ages were unknown at the time.

The New York campaign focuses on subway surfing

The new initiative aims to use young people’s voices to discourage other teenagers from surfing on the subway, while also urging social media companies to remove videos of the dangerous stunt from their platforms.

The latest incident comes after a 13-year-old boy died in Queens last week and the school’s chancellor confirmed the death was due to subway surfing. Last month, a child fell off the G train in Brooklyn and also died.
