Pune-Solapur highway accident: Two killed, 64 injured in serious ST bus collision – India News

Two people were killed and 64 others injured when two Maharashtra State Transport (ST) buses collided on the Pune-Solapur highway in Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday. The tragic incident took place at 5 p.m. near Varvand village in Pune district on Monday.

How did the accident happen?

According to Police Inspector Narayan Deskhmukh, a Pune-bound Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus collided with another Solapur-bound ST bus. The unfortunate incident occurred when the two-wheeler unexpectedly hit a bus going to Pune. The driver then tried to change the direction of the bus to avoid the two-wheeler, but the vehicle jumped onto the divider and collided with a bus coming from the other direction.

According to the latest report, both buses were carrying more than 110 passengers and caused serious loss of life and extensive damage.

Passengers taken to hospitals

A police official told The Indian Express that based on preliminary investigation, the driver tried to avoid colliding with the two-wheeler, but as a result, the bus plowed into the traffic. Police also confirmed that two passengers died on the spot while 64 other passengers sustained injuries in the fatal incident. All injured passengers were quickly transported to nearby hospitals. To find out the reasons behind the incident in detail, an investigation was initiated and a case was registered. Emergency services were quickly provided as more than ten ambulances helped transport 66 injured passengers to five nearby hospitals for immediate medical care, according to information from the Yavat Police Station.
