Police crisis team negotiations lead to de-escalation and arrest

A PACT officer managed to calm the situation after successful negotiations with an assault suspect who was brandishing a knife and threatening a police officer, leading to the arrest of a 44-year-old man wearing a medical hat last Wednesday. At approximately 11:45 a.m., police were called to a report of an injured person in the 800 block of Third Street SE and learned that the person had been attacked at a home on the same block. When police tried to speak to the homeowner and the robbery suspect, they encountered a man holding a knife who was uncooperative with police officers who arrived at the scene. The police called a police officer and the Crisis Team to calm down the situation and remove the suspect from the residence. The unnamed man was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a dangerous weapon and threats. Police say the victim and suspect know each other. The man in the medical hat is scheduled to appear in court on November 18. On October 23, police also responded to the area of ​​First Street and Sixth Avenue SE after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed. Traffic Advisory This morning, starting at 9:00 a.m., police will be conducting an oversize load escort which will impact traffic in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of TCH and the SW Industrial area. Loading will begin at Bromley Mechanical, 925 23th Street SW, and will move to the western city limits of Redcliff along the Trans-Canada Route.
