Veterinarians discovered that Crumbs’ thick layers of tissue were masking multiple cancerous tumors. They suspected that the sheer depth of the fatty tissue obscured the scans, hiding tumors that had spread to the spleen and other internal organs.

According to Galiana More – the owner of the Matroskin cat shelter where Crumbs was treated – she noted that the tumors could have caused multiple organs to collapse. She added that cats often hide symptoms when they are feeling unwell and only reveal problems when it is too late.

“Cats always hang on until the end, they don’t show this disease,” she explained NewsX. “Kroshik had no shortness of breath or digestive problems.”

To help Crumbs reach a healthier weight, shelter staff implemented a special plan that combined a new diet with regular treadmill training. For these sessions, they placed it in a tank of water to reduce stress on the joints, as seen in photos of the cat reluctantly trotting in a submerged configuration. Caregivers even shaved his belly to help him dry off after exercising in the water.
