Former hometown hero and educator Leslie Barlow has died

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – A longtime teacher at Maplewood ia Elementary School former KPLC hometown hero gone.

Leslie Barlow died on Thursday after a battle with cancer. For the past 32 years, she was known simply as Mrs. B at the school.

We had the opportunity to talk to her three years ago during a shoe and sock drive, during which she helped provide students with new shoes after such huge losses caused by Hurricane Laura: “And it stays with them. When so much has been taken from them in this moment, the smile we give back to them is something that cannot be described in words.”

A celebration of life will be held today, October 29, at 10 a.m. at Hixon-Sulfur Memorial
