A Pine Ridge man pleads guilty to assaulting a two-month-old baby

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – On Tuesday morning in federal court, Sinte White Butterfly, 25, of Pine Ridge pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury after initially pleading not guilty in September.

The accusation is related to events that took place in August. In a factual statement, White Butterfly said he lost control and attacked the baby, who was between one and two months old at the time.

As a result of the attack, the baby suffered numerous injuries, including:

Almost every rib was broken
Fractures of the right and left femur
Broken right tibia
Broken right wrist
Intracranial hemorrhage
Skull fracture on the right side of the skull

The white butterfly could face a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of $250,000. He will be sentenced on January 6, 2025.
