A 22-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer in connection with a crash involving a police car on Interstate 24 Tuesday morning.

Nashville Metro Police said a driver fled a traffic stop on Shelby Avenue when Officer Joe Medina witnessed a man driving recklessly on Korean Veterans Boulevard around 1:30 a.m.

In the one-minute, two-second video released by MNPD, the 22-year-old can be seen swerving from left to right after entering westbound on I-24, then swerving again toward the officer before circling the cruiser and doing donuts in the roadway before striking head-on in the cruiser.

The police said in a statement that after hitting the police car, the man fled and drove up the entrance ramp.

Police said Medina was injured in the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and released Tuesday afternoon.

The officers managed to locate the 22-year-old who took part in the incident. He turned around on Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to assault with a deadly weapon, the 22-year-old is charged with a felony count of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing bodily injury and reckless driving.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on November 15 for a settlement hearing. He faces a $27,500 jail sentence.
