A Kentucky family is trying to honor the memory of their daughter who died in a school bus crash

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) – It’s been two months since the Clark County Coroner issued a statement McKenna Letcher, 15, was struck and killed by a school bus in Winchester.

The coroner says Letcher was crossing Veterans Memorial Parkway at the time.

While Letcher’s family is not yet ready to talk about her death, her attorney Jon Hollan spoke to WKYT.

“I can say that we know for a fact that Kenna made it almost safely across the street and that she should still be here. The family would like her to be here. She was a joyful, beautiful soul who had so much to offer in life. We know she should still be here. And as far as the legal process goes, we will let that play out,” said Hollan, an attorney at Aguiar Injury Lawyers.

McKenna’s family says she was always willing to help others and that hasn’t changed even after her death. As an organ donor, McKenna saved her eyes to help others. Her family says they already helped a man in Louisville.

“Even in the face of tragedy, the family found comfort in knowing that her beautiful eyes were still on display and that she would be able to continue to help people as she always wanted to,” Hollan said.

Hollan says McKenna’s family plans to continue helping others in her honor.

“They are planning a Christmas program starting this year. This will continue every year. It will be issued in McKenna’s name and will be aimed at helping teenagers in Central Kentucky,” Hollan said.

The program is still in its early stages, but Hollan says he hopes to provide teens in need with gifts and other holiday items. If you know of a family who could benefit from this program, please contact the Hollan office. For more information, click Here.
