Mother, two children die after driving through safety barrier over Niagara Falls: Police

New York police said a mother and her children died after crossing a safety barrier over Niagara Falls.

According to the police, the act was “intentional”.

According to New York State Police, the incident occurred Monday evening around 9 p.m. According to New York State Trooper James O’Callaghan, passersby reported people had gone to the falls.

Police said the woman, identified by police as 33-year-old Chianti Means, went over a security barrier with her son and daughter and flew over a waterfall on Luna Island.

“The investigation determined that this incident was intentional, although the circumstances remain under investigation,” New York State Police said in a statement. press release on Wednesday.

Police reported that the search and rescue operation was unsuccessful.

Police identified the children as 9-year-old Roman Rossman and 5-month-old Mecca Means. Police said the family was from the Niagara Falls area.

O’Callaghan told reporters it took investigators several days to figure out what might have happened.

He said there are “a lot of safety measures” at Luna Falls, which is on the north side of Goat Island between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.

“It’s not something they just stumbled upon,” he said.

The family has been involved in the investigation, O’Callaghan said, adding that he hopes to bring “closure.”

“Based on the information we have, we know it was intentional, but the cause is more difficult to determine,” O’Callaghan said.
