Judge denies reducing bail for Longview man accused in fatal shooting

LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – A Longview man charged with murder has been denied a bail reduction.

Tavyon Damun Stephenson, 19, has been in the Gregg County Jail since July 25 after 18-year-old Isaiah Dickson died at the hospital from gunshot wounds. Stephenson’s bail was set at $500,000, and on Thursday he appeared in Judge J. Scott Novy’s court to ask for a reduction.

Stephenson’s defense appealed to Novy, saying he couldn’t afford bail. The request was denied.

According to a Facebook post by Longview Police after the original incident, just before 10 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at the Townhouse South Apartments at 5500 West Loop 281. Officers discovered Dickson had suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital. where he died.

Stephenson’s next status hearing will be February 5, 2025.
