Migrant workers hold money signs at Geylang BTO headquarters, MAMA says workers are not entitled to wages – Mothership.SG

On October 24, a group of migrant workers were spotted holding posters outside a construction site in Geylang.

In a photo taken by a passer-by and sent to Redditat least four employees were seen holding posters.

The poster said signs indicated workers were owed money.

One of the cardboard signs said “overdue amount” and the other appeared to say an amount of money.

The site corresponds to the Google street view of Dakota One, an upcoming BTO development located at 88A Jalan Satu.

MAMA contacted the employees

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has published approx statement on Oct. 25, saying they were aware of a social media post referring to the incident.

MOM has since engaged committed migrant workers.

According to the ministry, the workers stated that they were not entitled to remuneration and did not raise any concerns about their well-being.

Replying to Mothership questions, the police confirmed that a report had been made.

Police investigations are currently ongoing.

Mothership contacted the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and MOM for more information.

Migrant workers with wage arrears are encouraged to contact MOM

In October 2022, migrant workers participated in: protest over unpaid wages.

Five workers received assistance from MOM and the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management (TADM).

Their employer settled the payments in full.
