A suicide attack killed 12 Pakistani soldiers

Authorities in Pakistan are struggling with a wave of violence. They say Islamist militants drove a car packed with explosives into a security post in the northwest of the country, killing 12 soldiers.

The suicide attack occurred on Tuesday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The next day the funeral of the fallen soldiers took place. The military says six militants were also killed in the shooting. Reports say that the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group claims responsibility for the attack.

A suicide bombing at a train station in the southwest of the country earlier this month killed 24 people. The separatist Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a new military operation to combat rising violence.
