Man injured in shooting involving Springfield police officer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A man was injured in a Springfield police-involved shooting this morning.

Officers say it started at the corner of Golden Ave. and Division St. Officers were sent to check on a man who was threatening to harm himself just after midnight.

When officers arrived, the man pointed a gun at them and others. They worked to de-escalate as the man walked from Division and Golden to Division and O’Hara. At the scene, he pointed the gun at the officers again, and one of the officers shot him.

The man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

An investigation will now be carried out. The officer involved will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The information will be forwarded to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
