Accused murderer impregnated prison guard and nurse: Prosecutors

Accused of murder who claims to be the highest ranking member of the Bloods gang IN North Carolina she is now accused of impregnating a prison guard and a prison nurse.

Darrius “King Blood” Tyson, 32, used his influence to obtain sexual benefits and coordinate drug smuggling at the Durham County Jail, Assistant District Attorney Mary Jude Darrow said in court Tuesday, local NBC affiliate WRAL reported. Two prison employees were arrested in this case. The crime date listed on their warrants is Aug. 1, but the pregnancy dates are unclear and it’s unclear whether they gave birth to any children.

Officer Jade Shanicia Lanique Robertson, 27, was arrested in September on a felony charge of “sexual activity by a person in the care of a victim in a government facility,” the Durham County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement. press release. She was immediately fired from her position as a corrections officer and most recently served as a sergeant in the security unit. She was hired in October 2019.

According to court records available online, prison nurse L’Erin Burnette, 41, a prison contractor, was also arrested in the case.

Both women are free on $25,000 unsecured bonds and are scheduled for trial on December 3.

In a news release, Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead stated, “This conduct is not indicative of the values of the men and women of this agency nor is it consistent with the training, policies and procedures of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.”

Tyson’s attorney, Daniel Meier, argued that his client was a victim.

“He suffered sexual violence at the hands of two employees who are now facing criminal charges,” he told the judge on Tuesday. WRAL reported. “It is a Class E felony for someone to have a sexual relationship with an inmate. A person detained in accordance with the law cannot give consent. In such cases, he is the victim.”

Tyson will go on trial in February on charges including: murderconspiracy, kidnapping and burglary in the disappearance and presumed death of Shawn Burton, a 44-year-old father of six. Burton was last seen March 22, 2022and his body was not found.

Tyson is allegedly one of at least three others suspected of restraining and injuring Burton. According to A warrant obtained by the News & ObserverTyson unlawfully held and restrained Burton, moving him from place to place without his consent. Burton was not released by Tyson “to a safe location and was seriously injured,” the warrant states, without further details.

Burton’s wife spoke to WRAL about the secret.

“He left the house at night and said he was going to a club to promote an upcoming event,” she said. “That was the last time I saw him.”

Tyson served more than 10 years for a 2010 murder in an attempted murder in Durham when he was 18 years old. Court documents show his conviction was overturned in 2020 after prosecutors withheld exculpatory evidence.

Tyson was transferred from the Durham County Jail to Raleigh Central Jail, where he remains in custody.
