INDIAN SPRINGS (KTNV) — Most high school students dread Mondays, unless you’re Indian Springs senior Jadyn Guerino.

“I think it was a huge shock. I was really excited. I thought everyone, like my whole family, was here, so I was really happy to see everyone,” she said. “I think it’s really special for me to receive this award because I love my school, I love being involved, and being a student-athlete is a big part of my life.”

Guerino is a three-sport student-athlete who plays basketball, volleyball and track.

Outside of athletics, he has a 4.0 grade point average. Her friends and coaches say they couldn’t imagine someone more suitable for the award.

“It was lovely. I think she really deserved it. I won’t lie, she was very stressed, especially after being home for a week. I think she really needed it,” one friend said.

“Yes, I’m glad she’s being recognized for all her great achievements,” another friend said. “She does so much here, like she’s captain of the volleyball team, she’s president of the student council.”

“She is a true leader on and off the court,” the volleyball coach said. “She gets elected student body president and her team elects her captain, so all of these things combined show how much her peers love her.”

But the proudest person in the room was Guerino’s dad, Jimmy, who couldn’t even put into words how proud he was.

“We believe it is very important for children to be involved not only in sports activities, but also in classroom activities, volunteering and being part of the community,” he said. “This is what our family is built on.”

Guerino will graduate in the spring and said her best advice to any aspiring student-athlete is to do everything you can for the people you care about.

“I think definitely pay attention to what is most important to you and make time for yourself and the people that are most important to you. When I do all this, I do it for the people I love and to create good memories with them.”
