Thieves allegedly stole a truck filled with Oculus headsets worth .5 million

Six men have been charged with allegedly stealing several trucks, including one filled with Oculus headsets worth $1.5 million. 404 Media reports.

Court documents say the men surveilled distribution facilities in the Midwest and southeastern United States, following semi-trucks as they left the facilities. When the drivers of the haul truck stopped to refuel, the men would steal the truck and trailer, hitch the trailer to their own trailer and leave the stolen one. “They would also paint over any logos and/or identification numbers on the stolen trailer and use different license plates to conceal the identity of the trailer and avoid detection by law enforcement.

The documents say two men “found a semi-trailer trailer that had left a facility in Louisville, Kentucky, loaded with Oculus reality headsets valued at approximately $1.5 million.” Throughout 2022, the crew also hijacked one truck equipped with Microsoft products worth $940,000, a second with Sony products and a third with Harman-JBL products worth $530,000. The indictment did not specify the value of Sony’s products. The heists continued into 2023, when the crew hijacked trucks carrying CF Moto ATVs and $1 million worth of Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Works products.

Interestingly, seven men were arrested in Grapevine, Texas, for stealing similar merchandise, although they stole it directly from warehouses rather than trucks.
