Ramsey City Commissioner Stephen Kelly has died after a long battle with illness.

In tributelocal officials said he was “a Ramsey man through and through” and loved the city and its local sports teams.

Chairman Rob Cowell said: “I am extremely saddened to hear of Mr Kelly’s death over the weekend.

“He has been a great asset to the Ramsey City Commissioners and Ramsey as a whole.

“His passion for helping people was clear – from the fire department to our boardroom, he was there to help people in need.

“I offer my sincere condolences to Mr. Kelly’s family and friends at this time.”

Stephen Kelly was elected to the board in the 2021 election and represented the southern district.

He added that he had taken on the role of lead member for works and development and had often commented on his “frustration” that the work undertaken by commissioners was not always obvious to the public and that restrictions placed on local authorities made it difficult to achieve objectives.

Lamara Craine, another Ramsey commissioner, also paid tribute to Kelly.

She said: “I am very sad to hear the news about my colleague Commissioner Steve Kelly.

“Condolences to his friends and family. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
