Off-duty nurses help a pensioner from Harwich who was hit by a car

Witnesses told the BBC that two off-duty nurses cared for the elderly man until the ambulance arrived.

Steve O’Leary, who lives on King George’s Avenue, said: ‘It’s disturbing when an accident happens at the end of the road.

“My first thought was that it might have been a child as the school is just beyond the intersection and parents are taking their children across the main street.

“I was relieved to hear that this was not the case and that the elderly gentleman was cared for by several nurses until the ambulance arrived.”

Witnesses are asked to call Essex Police, quoting incident number 179 of November 27.
