The charge emerged in England on Tuesday evening and is linked to Coote’s yellow card to Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski.

The Macedonian international received a yellow card in the Championship match against West Bromwich Albion in October 2019.

The report adds that Coote admitted the chat took place but denied claims that anything inappropriate happened, including benefiting financially from it.

The defender received a yellow card late in the match, with reports insisting it appeared to be routine. Coote reportedly rejected these claims.

“I strongly reject these false and defamatory allegations,” Coote said. “No matter what problems I had in my personal life, they never influenced my decisions on the pitch. I have always greatly valued the integrity of the game, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability.
