Toronto maple leaves

The Maple Leafs on Wednesday signed defenseman Dakota Mermis to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on long-term injured reserve.

Mermis, 30, joined the team in the offseason on a one-year, $775,000 contract.

The metric defender was placed on long-term reserve at the start of the season after undergoing jaw surgery. On Tuesday, he took part in his first training session with the team.

Mermis scored three goals and eight points in 47 games with the Minnesota Wild last season, averaging 14:05 of ice time


Lightning in Tampa Bay

Andrei Vasilevskiy will be in net on Wednesday when the Lightning face the Washington Capitals.

Wasilewski has won four of his last five games and is 10-6-1 with a .915 save percentage and a 2.24 goals-against average this season.

Additionally, Mitchell Chaffee will be out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury, and forward Cam Atkinson will be added to the lineup.

Chaffee had 9:55 of ice time on one shot during the Lightning’s 8-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.

The 180 cm tall winger scored five goals and nine points in 20 games this season.

Atkinson, 35, has a goal and two points in 12 games this season.


Detroit Red Wings

Forward Patrick Kane participated in the Red Wings’ morning skate on Wednesday before their game against the Calgary Flames, but according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press his on-field status is questionable.

Kane, 36, missed Monday’s 4-2 win over the New York Islanders with an undisclosed injury.

The 170 cm tall winger has scored three goals and 10 points in 20 games this season.


Pittsburgh Penguins

Tristan Jarry was the first goalie off the ice during Wednesday’s optional morning skate before the game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Jarry, 29, last started in a 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 22 and has not recorded a win since a 6-3 win on Oct. 14 over the Montreal Canadiens.

The 6-foot-1 goalie has a 1-3-1 record with an .869 save percentage and a 4.41 goals-against average this season.


Florida Panthers

Forward Anton Lundell’s decision will be made in game time when his team takes on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

Lundell, 23, participated in the morning skate with a full face shield after taking a puck to the face during his team’s 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday.

Head coach Paul Maurice told reporters he may have to change his lineup on Wednesday depending on Lundell’s well-being.

The 180 cm tall center scored seven goals and 16 points in 22 games this season.

According to Panthers insider George Richards, Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to start in net against the Maple Leafs.

Bobrovsky, 36, has a 9-5-1 record this season, with an .885 save percentage and a 3.18 goals against average.


Blue Columbus jackets

Elvis Merzlikins will pick up his fifth straight victory in net when the Blue Jackets host the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3 goaltender has a 6-5-1 record this season, with an .894 save percentage and a 3.08 goals-against average this season.


New Jersey Devils

Jacob Markstrom is expected to start in net on Wednesday when the Devils host the St. Louis Blues.

The 6-foot-10 goalie has a 10-5-1 record this season, with a .907 save percentage and a 2.51 goals against average.
