It was a sad moment for the family of Sanusi Ahmad Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesman of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, following the death of his son, Sadiq Sanusi Bature, in India.

Last week, 15-year-old Sadiq was confirmed dead on Thursday, days after successfully undergoing a bone marrow transplant in an Indian hospital. This young, brilliant boy suffered from excruciating pain due to sickle cell anemia from birth until finally, at the peak of his career, he succumbed to his highest calling.

“This morning I lost my first child, Sadiq (Modibbo) Bature, aged 15. He lived like a good, brilliant and obedient child. Modibbo has suffered from sickle cell disease his whole life and this month he underwent a successful bone marrow transplant at an Indian hospital.
Unfortunately, he died as a result of post-operative complications in the brain,” wrote Dawakin-Tofa on his official social media profile.

Sadiq’s remains were brought back to Nigeria on Saturday and were buried in his hometown of Dawakin-Tofa in Kano on the same day, according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed his deep condolences to the family on the death of young Sadiq in an Indian hospital.

In a condolence message addressed to the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf described the missing as most saddened, while calling on his spokesman Dawakin-Tofa to take comfort in the Almighty’s difficult fate of Sadiq’s return to the fold of Allah’s mercy.

The governor prayed that the gentle soul of the deceased would bestow Al Jannatul Firdaus while seeking lasting fortitude so that the parents could bear with the lost.

Meanwhile, the family of Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa has received condolences and words of comfort at this sad moment from several professional organizations and well-wishers.

Some of these groups include the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kano State Chapter (NUJ), Nigerian Institutes of Public Relations (NIPR), Kano State Council; National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kano State Branch and Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kano State.

The condolence message sent by the Correspondents’ Chapel, signed by Chairman Aminu Garko, read in part: “As we prepare for the burial of our son, we pray that God will give you the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May the show of love and support from family, friends and colleagues provide comfort during this dark time.”
