Newly released footage from Houston The Police Department shows the moments when a police pursuit of a kidnapping suspect ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting.

Deputy Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra said that on October 28 at approximately 3:42 p.m., police received a report that Wilmer Sanchez-Hernandez had kidnapped a woman from an apartment building at gunpoint.

The police stated that the incident began with a domestic violence call the evening before, which resulted in Sanchez-Hernandez’s wife and young child staying at a family member’s home that night.

Sanchez-Hernandez went to a relative’s house and kidnapped the woman and child at gunpoint the next day.

Officers located his vehicle at approximately 4:12 p.m. on October 28 and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Police said Sanchez-Hernandez stopped the vehicle multiple times but drove away from officers as they exited their vehicles. During the pursuit, Sanchez-Hernandez fired at officers twice.

Police disabled Sanchez-Hernandez’s vehicle as he entered the Southwest Highway around 4:40 p.m., and three officers fired shots into the vehicle, striking Sanchez-Hernandez. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two officers fired shots at the vehicle. The second one uses a gun.

The officer, with his gun drawn, can be heard yelling at Sanchez-Hernandez to get out of the vehicle.

Another officer can be heard shouting: “Get that woman! Take the girl. Take the girl. Take the girl.”

The woman and child were not injured as a result of the incident.

Footage from the helicopter shows officers pulling both men out of the back of the SUV.

Menendez-Sierra said the investigation is still in its early stages.
