A jury finds the men guilty of attempting to murder a man in a shooting at a Birmingham house

The incident resulted in a broken window when three shots were fired in quick succession near a property on Glendower Road. Perry Barr around 11 p.m. on May 18 this year.

As a result of the incident, a man around 60 years old inside was injured.

Three defendants: Shaquon Richardson-Bowen, 21, Aairus Rehman, 22, and Shomari Mapp, 22, were sentenced in connection with the incident Birmingham Crown Court.

West Midlands Police said during the shooting that a camera outside the address was damaged in an attempt to conceal the identity of the perpetrators, and a brick was thrown at the windscreen of a car parked near the property.

The perpetrators then drove away from the scene in a stolen Skoda, which was later found burnt.

Detectives conducted an investigation using CCTV footage, automated surveillance cameras and cell phone evidence to establish a timeline of events leading up to the shooting and helped identify the three men.

Mobile phone evidence showed that all three were together or in close proximity, and their mobile phones were subsequently switched off or inactive during the incident.

The footage shows the gang driving down Glendower Road an hour before the shooting. As a result of the investigation, all three men were arrested and charged.

After the trial Mapp, Melvina Road, Nechells; and Richardson-Bowen of Severne Road, Acocks Green; they were convicted of attempted murder and arson. Rehman, of Ringlow Road, Great Barr; Birmingham pleaded guilty to arson and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at an earlier hearing and was found guilty of attempted murder at the trial.

The case was postponed until the verdict was announced on January 29.

Det Insp Francis Nock, of West Midlands Police’s Major Crime Squad, said: “This was a planned and targeted attack on a family home when the gang knew the occupiers would be at the address. The shooting required enormous planning, such as checking the area, significant communication between the group and covering their tracks.

“It’s a miracle someone wasn’t more seriously injured.”
