The team announces that Holden Trent of the Philadelphia Union has died

On Saturday, the Philadelphia Union announced the death of goalkeeper Holden Trent at the age of 25.

In two short announcements on their Facebook page, team officials said Trent had died and they were “devastated.”

His family says he was surrounded by family and friends.

The team called him “a great player and a fierce competitor,” then affirmed his deep bond with his family and fiancé, and expressed their condolences to his family.

Since being drafted in 2023, he has made six appearances for Union 2 in MLS Next Pro.

The statement did not specify the cause of death.

Trent’s family posted the following on his Instagram:

“We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Details regarding services and celebration of life will be announced soon. Our family is deeply moved to see and experience the love you all have for Holden.”

Holden Trent was 25 years old.
