Police in Keller, Texas, arrested a 45-year-old middle school teacher who they accuse of having sexual relations with an underage student.

“On Monday, October 21, Keller Police detectives arrested 45-year-old Angela Barnes without incident on charges of sexual assault of a child and inappropriate teacher-student relationship,” the Keller Police Department in Texas said. statement on social media.

The department said it learned about the middle school teacher’s alleged “inappropriate relationship” with the boy in late September. Police said the boy was one of Barnes’ former students.

“Detectives immediately began investigating the matter and discovered that Barnes had engaged in a sexual relationship with the minor boy throughout June and July 2024 and that the relationship had since ended,” the statement read.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe there are additional victims,” ​​he added in a statement.

Police said Barnes was arrested last week and booked into the Keller Regional Jail. Online jail records reviewed by PEOPLE showed that as of Monday, Barnes was no longer in custody.

According to The Guardian, Barnes was a teacher at Carroll Middle School Fort Worth Star Telegram. The school is located in Southlake, Texas, a northwest suburb of Dallas.

Carroll School District he said Local station Fox 4 News reported that it “immediately” placed Barnes on administrative leave and notified police when it learned of the alleged relationship.

School district officials told the news outlet that based on information received, the alleged sexual abuse did not occur on the school campus.

“The safety and security of all students is always our highest priority, and any allegations of adult misconduct are promptly investigated and reported to the appropriate authorities,” the school district said.
