Minnesota parole manhunt for man accused of killing pregnant ex-wife

A manhunt is underway in Minnesota for a man accused of murdering his pregnant ex-wife while he was on parole for a previous murder.

Michael Allan StowersThe 36-year-old is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the Oct. 19 shooting that killed 35-year-old Damara Alexis Kirkland, as well as auto theft and assault in connection with his escape, according to a criminal complaint obtained by KARE.

Officers said they arrived at an apartment in St. Just after 9 p.m. Paul, where residents claimed they heard gunshots. Police said they found the woman lying on the floor surrounded by 9 mm shell casings, and paramedics said the victim died around 9:30 p.m.

Officers added that during the investigation, a cellphone rang and the contact name was “My$hon Stowers.”

Ultrasound photos were found in the apartment and a letter addressed to Stowers was found in the mailbox, the Associated Press reported in a probable cause statement.

Records from Minnesota Department of Corrections show Stowers has been released from prison on parole since March on second-degree murder charges in 2008 in connection with the murder of a St. George man. Paul.

He was on leave from work and living at an assisted living facility, but was given leave to visit a woman described in a probable cause statement as his ex-wife on the day of the shooting, according to the AP.

The landlord told police, according to KARE, the victim was in the process of being evicted because her estranged husband was living with her, which was not allowed because he was not included in the lease.

Shortly after Kirkland was shot, additional officers were dispatched to a report of a carjacking and found a man who had been shot in the leg and had a broken femur.

Police said the victim’s friend said she was standing outside a moving vehicle when a man with Stowers’ description ran up, shot the victim and stole a running gray Audi.

Later that day, the statement said a Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office employee received a call from Stowers saying he had shot someone and wanted to turn himself in.

Stowers did not turn himself in and remains at large.
