A school employee has been identified as one of three people killed in a fiery crash involving a high-speed, reckless driver near Woodstock that left her daughter seriously injured.

The Woodstock Fire District, Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 12:02 a.m. Sunday to 13400 Davis Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a multi-vehicle entrapment crash.

The sheriff’s office said a 2021 Dodge Challenger Hellcat was traveling westbound on Davis Road.

A Dodge tried to pass a 2021 Jeep Wrangler in a designated no-passing zone, sheriff’s officials said Monday morning.

The Dodge struck an eastbound 2022 Volvo XC 90 at the top of a hill, causing the Volvo to leave the roadway to the south.

After impact, the Dodge spun around, traveling westbound and exiting the northbound roadway, where it caught fire.

Sheriff’s officials said the Jeep was hit by debris from the crash, but managed to avoid a direct collision with other vehicles.

Woodstock Fire District Communications Specialist Alex Vucha said firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and located a major accident in which the Dodge was completely engulfed in flames.

Vucha said firefighters deployed a hose to contain the vehicle fire, which began to spread toward a nearby wooded area.

Additional fire crews worked to extricate a child passenger from the Volvo, who was trapped during the crash.

Vucha said the seriously injured child was transported by ambulance to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.

A LifeNet medical helicopter landed and transported the child to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Vucha said two passengers were in the Dodge after the fire was extinguished.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff said they have not yet been identified.

The driver of the Volvo, identified Monday as 47-year-old Amy Roeder of Woodstock, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roeder was a classroom aide in District 200 at Westwood Elementary School in Woodstock.

“She was a tremendous asset to the Westwood School community. In addition to being an employee, she was also a very involved parent,” said Kevin Lyons, director of communications for Woodstock Community Unit School District 200.

Roeder’s daughter was a child who was in the vehicle when the accident occurred.

Lyons stated that the school is making every effort to ensure that the students Roeder worked with are supported following her death.

Vucha said the driver and young passenger of the Jeep were unharmed and did not require medical attention.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office closed Davis Road between Stieg Road and Dean Street to investigate the crash.

The sheriff’s office said the Dodge was driving too fast and recklessly at the time of the crash.

Containers with alcoholic beverages were found at the scene, but it is not known whether alcohol was also a factor in the incident.

The occupants of the Volvo were wearing seat belts and had deployed airbags, sheriff’s officials said.

The road was closed all afternoon and into the evening. The services reopened the road around 8 p.m

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is performing autopsies on the three victims.

An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
