Delhi teenager dies by suicide after failing to clear JEE by jumping from seven-story building | India news

In a tragic accident, a 17-year-old girl committed suicide after she reportedly failed the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The girl, who had cleared her Class 12 exams, was preparing intensively for the JEE exam when she took her life by jumping from the seventh floor of a building in Shaheen Bagh on Friday.

According to a statement by the Delhi Police, a PCR call was received around 11.25 am on Friday stating that a young girl had jumped from the roof of a seven-story building located in the main market of Okhla. The officers who responded immediately arrived at the scene and found a note left by the girl. The note reportedly mentioned her struggles with academic pressure and the stress of not meeting academic expectations.

Student stress and family background

The teenager had already reportedly confided to her mother that she would resort to such extreme measures if she failed the exam, highlighting the emotional toll that academic expectations have on young students. The girl’s father works in the private sector and her mother is a housewife. This incident highlights the pressure many students feel as they strive to meet high academic and competitive standards.

Surveillance footage is circulating on social media

As the investigation continued, CCTV footage of the girl jumping from the roof appeared on social media and was widely shared. The police advise against distributing this sensitive material out of respect for the family’s privacy.

Investigation ongoing

The case is currently being investigated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Officials are investigating the circumstances that may have influenced the girl’s mental condition and the final decision. This tragic event highlighted the need to overcome academic pressures and provide students with mental health support.
