What do they mean for the Jaguars on Sunday

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Before leaving for Jacksonville, they removed defenseman Robert Rochell from the lineup.

The Jaguars made the biggest move of the day.

Here’s our weekly breakdown of what trades made and unmade will mean for Sunday’s game.

Up: CB Robert Rochell

With cornerback Corey Ballentine (ankle) questionable, the Packers elevated Rochell.

This will be Rochell’s fourth appearance in the matchday squad. He was promoted from the practice squad for Week 3 against Tennessee and Week 4 against Minnesota and signed to the 53-man roster for Week 5 against the Rams. He was released after that game and re-signed with the practice squad.

In three appearances, he played 34 snaps on special teams and recorded two tackles.

Not upgraded: LB Chris Russell

The Packers had four players on the final injury report, with the others being defensive back Devonte Wyatt (ankle), linebacker Quay Walker (concussion) and center Josh Myers (wrist) questionable.

If Wyatt misses a fourth straight game, the Packers could turn to Colby Wood again. Wyatt, who had been practicing all week, said, “We’ll see when.” asked about his status in the game.

If Myers is unable to play or has limited opportunities, Elgton Jenkins will move to center, Sean Rhyan will move from right back to left back and first-round pick Jordan Morgan will be given the full-time right back position. Next up will be fifth-round rookie Jacob Monk, whose 30 snaps were all on special teams.

An interesting case concerns the linebacker, with Walker being in the concussion protocol since Friday. The Packers did not elevate Chris Russell from the practice squad, although they may not have felt the need to do so.

If Walker doesn’t play, the Packers will start starting cornerbacks Eric Wilson, Edgerrin Cooper and Isaiah McDuffie, with rookie third-round pick Ty’Ron Hopper next in line. He played 92 snaps in seven games – all on special teams.

Jaguars Activate Star from IR

As expected, the Jaguars activated linebacker Foyesade Oluokun from injured reserve after missing four games with a foot injury.

Oluokun, a sixth-round draft pick out of Yale in 2018, is a stud. He led the NFL in receptions in 2021 and 2022, and was fourth in 2023 when he led the league in solo receptions. His 549 total tackles in those seasons are 56 more than second-ranked Bobby Wagner.

Of the 17 players who have made 350 tackles in that span, he is first with 26 quarterback hits and second with 24 tackles for losses.

“He’s a very productive guy,” offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said. “He does a really good job in the running game and also in the passing game. He is a good dropper and reads the quarterback’s eyes well. So he’s a pretty solid, all-around linebacker, and I think that’s going to help the backline not only in the run game, but also in pass coverage.

Safety Andrew Wingard, who had the team’s only interception, will remain on injured reserve for another week. He was downgraded from questionable to out.

The Jaguars elevated running back Jake Funk and defensive end Joe Gaziano from the practice squad.

Funk’s move could mean Travis Etienne missing the game. Etienne, who surpassed 1,000 rushing yards as a rookie in 2022 and again in 2023, will have a game-time decision made. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said Friday.

Funk was selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. He has four tackles and one reception in his career.

Gaziano made his season debut last week against the Patriots. He has one sack in 24 career games.

Finally, the Jaguars have removed left tackle Cam Robinson from the injury report, meaning he will play following the concussion he suffered last week.
