London High School’s Isabella Kerry wins poll

London High School’s Isabella Kerry was the winner in this week’s Dispatch’s Student of the Week poll.

Kerry secured 2,603 ​​votes, or 68.32% of the total cast, to top runner-up Marleigh LaVoie, who received 21.29%.

Here is Kerry’s nomination from the school:

“Isabella holds a 4.5 GPA and is ranked fourth in her class. She has been a cast member in each fall play during her high school career including this year as the lead in Antigone. She has also been a member of the cast of each musical and plans to continue this spring. Isabella has been a member of the Pride of London Marching Band since 8th grade. She has also been a member of the Diversity Club and National Honor Society. She serves as president of both organizations. Finally, she has been a Madison County Prevention Youth Ambassador for three years and has participated in the Rotary Speech Competition for the last two years.”

Here is LaVoie’s nomination from the school:

“Marleigh LaVoie is a senior at New Albany High School and a six-time varsity letterman, serving as Varsity Cheerleading Captain. She was also nominated for the Archie Griffin Scholarship Award in 2021. With over 215 community volunteer hours, she actively supports organizations like the Miracle League, New Albany Youth Cheerleading, Westerville Area Resource Ministry, The Buddy Walk, and The Church of the Resurrection. Academically, she holds a 3.9 GPA and is an active member of Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. As an Honors Dual Enrollment student, she will graduate with 57 college credits from Columbus State. Her senior project focuses on her journey to collegiate cheerleading, working with former OSU and Team USA cheerleader Maria Wisman.”

Students were nominated by participating central Ohio high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors for outstanding academic and school achievement and community service.

D’Andre Stovall, Westerville North High School: “From his respectful demeanor in class to his dedication to excellence in football and wrestling, sophomore D’andre Stovall knows the power of making a good impression. D’andre is a well-rounded student who spreads a positive influence to his fellow students. His football team implements a study table, allowing D’andre to use his time efficiently to study and prepare for classes. D’andre finds joy in chemistry, each interactive lab a chance to discover and hang out with his friends of reading a room, and is willing to pitch in, helping his friends or brightening up the class with a smile and a laugh. His dad taught him to pay attention to detail, so D’andre values ​​etiquette and presentation, understanding how one factor can determine the opportunities that come his way. He always gives his 100% in effort and respect, no matter who he is around: family, coaches, teachers or peers. He exudes good manners and a drive for excellence as an individual who radiates inspiration and acknowledges the needs of others – knowing that these characteristics will get him far in life.”

Alejandro Garcia, St. Francis DeSales High School: “Senior Alejandro Garcia played a critical role in organizing the school’s Family Fiesta held this month that was a tremendous success. Alejandro attended meetings, provided direction to other students and delivered clear communication during the event. Additionally, his founding of SFD’s new club “Hola “has afforded more opportunities for younger students to experience his effective leadership in action. Alejandro also serves as a Student Council representative and a class captain for Spirit Week, taking place this week (Oct. 21-25) at the high school.”

Elnathan Abiy, Canal Winchester High School: “Elnathan exemplifies dedication, hard work, and intellectual curiosity, making him an outstanding candidate for this recognition. During his summer internship with Canal Winchester Schools in the technology department, Elnathan demonstrated impressive technical skills, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. He was , in part, responsible for maintaining and updating all the technology hardware and software in the school’s classrooms. In addition to his success as an intern, Elnathan is a highly motivated student who continually challenges himself academically , where he is honing his networking and IT skills and preparing for a future in the technology field. Furthermore, he is currently enrolled in multiple Advanced Placement (AP) courses, which showcase his commitment to academic excellence dedication, and strong character makes him a deserving candidate for Student of the Week.”
